Senior Marketing & Communications Lead

About aiEDU

The AI Education Project (aiEDU) is a fast-growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to make AI literacy accessible to every learner. We equip students—especially those disproportionately impacted by AI and automation—with the conceptual knowledge and durable skills they need to thrive as future workers, creators, consumers, and citizens in an AI-driven world.

Founded in 2019, aiEDU has grown into a national leader in K-12 AI readiness, with curriculum and programs reaching students across all 50 states. Our work is powered by partners and funders who share our vision—including Google.org, Salesforce, Amazon, and NewSchools Venture Fund, alongside leading philanthropies like the Walton Family Foundation, Overdeck Family Foundation, Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, and Gates Foundation.

01

Learner-facing tools, built hands-on

Four vibe-coded tools made with and for a niece and two nephews, all under nine: a painting app with glow mode, mirroring, and spin art; a brick breaker with its own rules and a hidden Easter egg; a virtual spirograph; and a spirograph lab that explains the underlying math with live animations and exports an STL so the design can be 3D printed and drawn by hand.

The premise, as explained to them: learning how to learn, because the job may not have been invented yet.

02

Access treated as a design constraint

Every one of those tools is free, with no ads, no sign-up, and no account of any kind. They run in any phone browser and install to a home screen like a native app — deliberate choices about children, data, and the households where a device is shared. A maze game ships alongside its own level builder so a parent, a teacher, or the player can author new content without the original author involved.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief of Staff (interim: CEO), the Senior Marketing & Communications Lead will build and run aiEDU's content and media engine — the systems, workflows, and channels that turn aiEDU's work into reach, influence, and partnerships. This is a builder's role as much as a marketer's role: alongside producing high-quality marketing and communications materials, the Lead will design repeatable, AI-accelerated workflows that let a small team punch well above its weight and help the rest of aiEDU communicate on-brand.

03

Watch page engine · research, generator, output

Research came first: a field guide defining the ideal video watch page, mapped element by element to Google Search Central's documentation, with a numbered citation on every recommendation so each claim could be independently verified.

The generator built from it has produced two full libraries — 51 aiEDU Studios videos, brand-matched and faceted, and 70 videos across five series for the Anderson Center. Standard, then machine, then output.

04

Marketing function of one, nine years running

Demand generation, content, video production, patient experience, and internal tooling for a founder-led practice, run as a single-person function on a small, nimble team. Claude is the daily driver.

The compression is measurable: a stylist-referral lead workflow was built and deployed in eight hours, where the same instinct in 2023 took three weeks of hand-assembled scripting.

Core responsibilities span content development and production, distribution and audience growth, media relations and thought leadership, and organization-wide MarCom alignment. The Lead will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Programs, Learning, and Development as well as funders, NGO partners, and education systems to align messaging and storytelling, support aiEDU's growing work with school districts and systems by helping reach and engage district leaders, and continually sharpen how aiEDU shows up across both traditional and AI-driven channels, including the fast-emerging world of AI search.

05

Position in the org chart · stakeholder range

Current role reports to the founder and CEO, works alongside the COO, and sits upstream of sales and of the outsourced web and social teams — contributing across every area of the business rather than inside one function.

Outside it: a professional surgical academy, a paid course co-built with a mathematics professor, and, earlier, thirteen McKesson R&D engineers who had never been project-managed before.

The Lead will also own a practical measurement layer — tracking not just activity but outcomes and AI-era visibility — to ensure strategies are working and to inform how they evolve. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic, hands-on marketer who is fluent in AI, energized by building systems, and excited to shape and amplify aiEDU's narrative and impact.

06

Accountable to outcomes, not activity

2,677 consultations generated in the last 24 months — 106% of the internal benchmark. Surgical-day fill rate from 52% to 83%. Cases per operating day up 22%. Multi-case days more than tripled. All of it downstream of content, and all of it reported by number rather than by publishing volume.

⭐ Role Details

  • Location: Fully remote. Up to 15% travel within the United States may be required.
  • Compensation: The compensation for this role is $125,000 - $135,000
  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including full health, dental, and vision coverage for you and any dependents, plus life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, flexible work hours and location, 15 annual organization holidays and flexible paid time off, up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, a generous annual stipend for home office expenses and professional development, and a 401k match of 4% vested immediately. For more details regarding our benefits, visit: aiedu.org/careers
  • Start date: We'd like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer, though there is some flexibility.
07

Atlanta, Georgia · remote and flexible since 2020

Travel reads as a draw rather than a constraint, and more of it would be welcome. A 2016 career break covered 12,000 miles circumnavigating the country out of a rooftop tent, with work continuing from the road.

✅ Your Responsibilities

Digital Marketing and Content Creation

  • Market aiEDU's products, services, and events: design and execute campaigns that drive partnerships, downloads, views, participation, and revenue across product and curricular launches, research releases and reports, advocacy milestones and policy moments, and events (e.g., AI Literacy Day, conferences, convenings).
08

Product launches · programs · convenings

Full Credit Method, a paid AP Calculus mastery program launched with a three-time AP exam reader: design, front end, and LMS structure. The AAHRS surgeon-training program: structure, logistics, and collateral, including asynchronous LMS coursework, augmented and virtual reality experiences, and in-person sessions at the surgical center.

Recurring revenue campaigns sit behind the numbers in note 06.

  • Support aiEDU's growing partnership work with school districts and systems by helping reach and engage district leaders — building light-touch nurture journeys (e.g., email, LinkedIn, targeted content) that move district decision-makers from awareness to conversation.
09

New audience, familiar motion

School systems would be a new audience. The mechanic would not. A stylist-referral program turns a QR cling on a salon mirror into a landing page that walks a stranger through the five photographs a surgeon needs, with a labeled visual guide so the handoff completes rather than stalls.

Before that, five years of executive search and talent work was list-building and cold approach to senior decision-makers at scale — 16 placements and $2.2M in fees at Korn Ferry alone.

  • Create compelling content across channels — LinkedIn and Substack, web copy and campaign landing pages, blog posts and newsletters, press kits and one-pagers — and, increasingly, build the templates, prompt libraries, and AI-assisted workflows that let aiEDU produce that content faster and more consistently.
10

Copy still in service, years after publication

Long-form web copy written for the practice and still live: positioning, patient education, and an FAQ. Alongside it, a two-page patient one-pager and a campaign landing page.

The pre-2023 pieces are labeled as written before generative AI, which makes the unassisted voice available for comparison.

11

Brand-trained knowledge base · reusable templates

A written design system — tokens, type stack, component anatomy, and the reasoning behind each decision — carries brand consistency into every new build from a single paste, which is the prompt-library idea applied to brand rather than to prose.

The same discipline runs in reverse when the brand belongs to someone else: the aiEDU Studios library was generated against aiEDU's existing brand, not a new one.

  • Oversee end-to-end production of aiEDU Studios content, working with internal teams and vendors to keep output high-quality, on-brand, and aligned to strategic priorities — and build the production workflows (briefs, templates, repurposing pipelines) that turn each episode into clips, social, and written assets.
12

Directed, filmed, and edited in-house

The practice's YouTube channel is produced end to end in-house: patient journeys, testimonials, surgical procedure overviews, and patient education. Multicam capture and editing in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop — a motion graphics package cut from original footage, a patient journey, and a hairline design session.

Vendor oversight runs alongside it: outsourced web and social teams report into the same editorial standard.

13

Repurposing as a pipeline, not a chore

Fifty-one aiEDU Studios episodes have already been run through it, each becoming its own structured, indexable page inside a faceted library — generated rather than hand-built. The same pipeline produced 70 videos across five series elsewhere.

  • Maintain editorial calendars, production timelines, and content workflows.
14

Weekly video standup, run off a shared board

A production status board for every active video project, with a Kanban view and an editable table. The team updates it in real time ahead of the weekly standup, which replaced retyping an agenda into a calendar invite and made the meeting materially more useful.

Distribution & Audience Growth

  • Plan distribution and reuse up front: every flagship asset (report, episode, op-ed, launch) ships with a plan for how it will be promoted and repurposed across channels, rather than published once and left on its own.
15

Reuse answered at the brief

A video posted once and linked once is published and left on its own; the same video given a dedicated, structured page inside a browsable library keeps earning for years. Writing the standard before building anything is what moves the reuse question from post-launch cleanup to the brief itself — and what made a 51-video library a single generation run.

  • Grow aiEDU's owned audiences — Substack, newsletter, LinkedIn — against clear reach and engagement goals, not just a publishing cadence.
16

Owned channels to date: video and web

Newsletter and Substack growth would be new. The owned audiences built so far are a YouTube channel and a website, and the discipline this bullet asks for transfers directly: the target was a number rather than a cadence, and the number was consultations booked — 2,677 in 24 months, at 106% of benchmark.

  • Activate executive and staff voices, including aiEDU's leadership, as primary distribution channels, supporting executive-led content and amplification.
17

Founder as primary channel · nine years

Managing a high-profile surgeon as creative talent is the core of the current role: ghostwriting, local speaking engagements, teaching slots at international conferences, newspaper interviews, reality television, and podcast appearances — sourced, prepared, and supported, including the introductions delivered from the stage.

The founder's byline and his channel are the practice's primary distribution, and the academy built around him extends that voice to his peers.

  • Develop partner, funder, and ecosystem relationships as deliberate distribution paths for co-created and co-branded content.
18

Co-created, co-branded, twice over

Full Credit Method is a genuine co-brand: Dr. Abby Warner, a mathematics professor whose work sits at the intersection of AI-powered instructional design and academic integrity, built the curriculum and grades the mock exams; the design, front end, and LMS structure came from the other side of the partnership.

ampuTeez launched through a minority-owned artist co-op and the amputee community itself, on a US-made, sweatshop-free supply chain.

Communications & Media Relations

  • Position aiEDU and its leaders as the trusted, go-to authority on AI literacy and readiness — pitching and supporting earned media, podcasts, op-eds, and speaking opportunities, and maintaining media lists and relationships.
19

Earned media for a high-profile principal

Standing work in the current role: newspaper interviews, reality television, notable podcast appearances, local speaking engagements, and teaching at international conferences — identified, pitched where required, prepared for, and supported through delivery.

A formal media-list platform and a wire cadence would be new tooling. Sourcing opportunities and keeping relationships warm across long cycles would not; five years of executive search was that job under a different name.

  • Support the distribution of media advisories, briefing materials, and rapid-response communications as needed; prepare media activity reports.
20

Briefing a principal is routine; the press formats are not

Preparing a principal to walk into a room — background, talking points, the questions likely to land badly — is weekly work. Advisories, rapid-response protocol, and formal media activity reports would be new formats rather than new skills.

The reporting habit is long-standing: executive program materials for 30 high-potential McKesson executives, 87% of whom earned top leadership ratings afterward, and a status structure for an R&D group of thirteen.

  • Build aiEDU's visibility in AI search and answer engines (AEO/GEO): structure content and original research so that tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Claude cite aiEDU when people ask about AI in education.
21

Original research, built to be cited

The field guide is original research structured for citation: every recommendation mapped element by element to primary documentation, each claim carrying a numbered source that resolves to the specific section. The libraries generated from it ship structured data on every page, which is what answer engines actually read.

The same principle applied inward: the resume exists as a machine-readable Markdown file alongside the PDF, written to be parsed rather than guessed at.

  • Help shape co-branded communications, announcements, and shared storytelling with partners and funders.
22

Two names on the same story, 300+ times

A cross-functional team of five, managed from ideation through launch of a B2B2C subscription marketing service, then taken to a base of 300+ established customers — each one a shared story that had to work for both brands attached to it. The pilot ran at the Anderson Center, and that content strategy became the practice's growth engine for the years that followed.

Marketing Operations & Systems

  • Build and maintain the AI-first infrastructure behind the marketing function: reusable workflows, prompt libraries, brand-trained knowledge bases, templates, and lightweight tools that increase output and consistency.
23

The standing shelf of internal tools

A watch page generator, a production board, a competitive map of all 27 hair restoration providers in Georgia, a lead-capture landing page, and a one-third octave audio analyzer that runs off a phone microphone. Each one replaced a manual step or a document nobody was maintaining. The full set is catalogued here.

  • Identify where AI can responsibly automate or accelerate work (drafting, repurposing, reporting, monitoring) and where human judgment and creativity should lead.
24

Protected health information · a line held since 2023

A decade of surgical photography needed processing: before images matched to after images across multiple angles, deduplicated, dated, renamed, blurred, and composited into side-by-side pairs. The pipeline that does it — Python, PowerShell, and a Photoshop batch routine — runs entirely offline and is still in service. The model wrote the tool; the protected data never touched a model.

Two working rules came out of that and still hold: nothing gets drafted from scratch by AI, and nothing gets written on a subject that cannot be independently validated. Every item on the portfolio is labeled with what AI did and did not do, including the pieces marked no-AI.

  • Document and steward MarCom standards so these systems are usable by the whole organization, not just the marketing team.
25

Standards written before launch, not after

At Technical Resource Solutions, the team's workflows and SOPs were authored ahead of a service launch and handed to a five-person team, not reverse-engineered once the questions started.

The field guide was written to be checked rather than trusted, with priority labels separated out as editorial judgment so the sourced material and the opinion stay distinguishable. A system only its author can operate is not a system.

Internal Communications & MarCom Alignment

  • Develop internal communications that keep staff informed and aligned on messaging, campaigns, and organizational priorities.
26

Seven years of it before the marketing title

McKesson's LEAP program was expanded into a corporate-wide offering and carried through six cohorts and 175 additional participants, spawning a successor program — an internal communications job wearing a program-management badge.

At Liaison Technologies, three disparate systems were consolidated into one HRIS for 500+ employees. Adoption follows communication, not the migration plan.

  • Create centralized, on-brand MarCom materials and enable other teams to self-serve on presentations, meetings, and everyday communications using shared templates and the systems above.
27

Built so it runs without its author in the room

The AAHRS program was exactly this problem: asynchronous LMS coursework, AR and VR experiences, and in-person sessions, with collateral designed to be delivered by other people.

The habit shows up everywhere else too — the production board carries an editable table for people who do not think in cards, and a level builder ships beside the game so the content can be extended by whoever wants to.

Executive & Advocacy Support

  • Draft talking points, briefs, and background materials for presentations and panels, advocacy meetings and policy conversations, and partner and funder engagements.
28

Ghostwriting as a standing assignment

Writing in a founder's voice is daily work — conference talks, panel prep, interview background, and the introductions delivered from the stage. The formal version predates it: candidate and client briefings at Korn Ferry, executive program materials at McKesson, and conference teaching materials and event collateral for the practice.

Listening, Research & Measurement

  • Monitor media, policy, and education conversations relevant to AI and education, flagging opportunities for aiEDU to engage, and share insights with the Director to inform strategy.
29

New beat, established method

The AI-and-education policy beat would be new ground, and it is one of the more appealing parts of the role. The method is not new: competitive monitoring became a live map of all 27 providers in the state rather than a memo that would be stale in a month, and market research became a sourced, structured document the whole team can open.

  • Own a practical measurement layer that tracks both traditional performance (reach, engagement, conversion, partnership pipeline) and AI-era visibility (how often aiEDU is cited or mentioned in AI-generated answers), and translate it into recommendations that shape what aiEDU does next.
30

Both halves of the measurement layer

Traditional: a pipeline reported by number — 2,677 consultations at 106% of benchmark, fill rate 52% to 83%, cases per operating day up 22%. Earlier, a hand-built provisioning tool recovered more than $270K in billable hours in its first fiscal year, which is the same habit at a different scale.

AI-era: structured data shipped per page across both libraries, and a machine-readable resume maintained as a running test of whether clean structure gets picked up.

🚀 About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or content development.
31

Nine years, continuous

Patient education and consultative sales from 2016, marketing manager from 2019, business development and content since 2020. Behind that, seven years in program management, executive search, and HR at McKesson, Korn Ferry, and Liaison Technologies. Full dates on the resume.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
32

Written on the page, verbal on camera and on stage

Written: site copy, a patient handout, and years of ghostwriting for a founder.

Verbal: 1,000+ patients guided through a hair loss evaluation and a surgical decision, the on-camera interviews conducted rather than outsourced, and the conference introductions delivered live.

  • Experience executing multi-channel communications campaigns with demonstrated, measurable outcomes.
33

Five channels, one funnel, published numbers

Content, video, web, a referral program, and events feeding a single pipeline: 2,677 consultations in 24 months at 106% of benchmark, surgical-day fill from 52% to 83%, cases per operating day up 22%, multi-case days more than tripled, and 3,150+ surgeries over nine years.

  • A hands-on AI power user: comfortable using AI tools daily and, ideally, building the prompts, workflows, or simple systems that make a team more productive.
34

Daily since early 2023

Claude is the daily driver. Gemini handles Google-centric and search-forward tasks; Gemini and ChatGPT cover image and video generation; Adobe Firefly runs inside the Adobe products.

What changed in the last twelve months is scope rather than tooling: the gap between an idea and a working draft collapsed, and with it the ceiling on what one person will attempt. The clearest before-and-after is a hand-assembled 2023 scripting project against an eight-hour build and deploy this year — and everything else on the shelf sits downstream of that shift.

  • Comfort managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
35

Concurrent by default

Demand generation, content, video production, patient experience, and internal tooling run at once in the current role — which is why the tracker exists. Earlier: a 90-day contracts backlog cleared inside the first 90 days, and a full data center maintenance audit and contract consolidation delivered by month ten.

  • A strategic, collaborative, and creative thinker who can adapt and prioritize moment to moment.
36

Fast, with somebody watching the edges

Nine years on a small team that can pivot in a morning teaches the pivot and the guardrail in equal measure: fast gets an organization out over its skis when nobody is watching the edges. Efficient never means cutting corners, and gray areas are navigable in a way ethical lines are not.

The same candor shows up in the work — a game ships publicly labeled "in dev" because it only runs reliably on some iOS devices, which is more useful to a reader than a quiet omission.

  • Working knowledge (not necessarily technical) of artificial intelligence and its intersection with the policy, ethical, workforce, and education landscapes.
37

Practiced across four of those landscapes

Ethics and regulated data: the offline PHI pipeline described in note 24, and the AI-use labels carried on every portfolio item. Children and data: tools built for kids with no ads, sign-up, or account.

Education: instructional design in Storyline 360, Rise 360, and Captivate for a surgical academy and an AP Calculus program — the latter built with a mathematics professor working on AI-powered instructional design and academic integrity, which keeps that conversation current. Workforce: seven years in talent management and executive search, watching automation reshape the roles being hired for.

  • Proficiency in the use of communications and marketing tools, such as Mailchimp, Airtable, video editing software, MuckRack, etc.
38

Inventory, including the gaps

Deep: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign, Animate, Acrobat, Affinity, Insta360 Studio, multicam capture. Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, Later. Storyline 360, Rise 360, Captivate. Power Automate, Python, PowerShell, and the habit of building the tool when a suitable one does not exist.

Not yet used: MuckRack and Airtable. Both are short learning curves; naming them is cheaper than discovering them in week one.

  • Bonus: familiarity with the shift toward AI search and answer engines (AEO/GEO) and how organizations earn visibility in AI-generated answers.
39

The through-line of the last year's work

It is what note 21 documents, and it accounts for most of the recent portfolio: the research, the aiEDU Studios library, the 70-video library, and a resume written for machines.

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications as outlined in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We would encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our qualifications as described.

Fit

Most of this role is the current one: content and video produced end to end, campaigns measured against revenue, a founder's voice carried into earned media and onto stages, and the systems underneath all of it built rather than bought.

The differences are the appeal. A national media function, owned newsletter audiences, and an AI-and-education policy beat are new ground, and hands-on is the preferred way onto it. Five of the requirements above are that kind of new ground; the other thirty-four are current practice, and every one of them links to something already shipped.
